Here at House of Alyssa Smith, we are head over heels in love with anything that adds quality and ambience to the home, making it a happy and serene place to spend time. Alyssa first dreamed up the concept of creating our own collection of vegan and cruelty free candles many years ago, but never got round to bringing the dream to life because there were always more urgent things to focus on.
The dream was finally brought to life in 2020, when the whole world ‘stayed home’ due to the global pandemic. A year of developing, testing, designing and adding perfect touches took place and what better time to fulfil this dream of Alyssa’s than when so much time was spent at home? It was so important that our range of candles and home scents were cruelty free and incorporated natural ingredients and essential oils, as we are incredibly conscious about what we put into our environment and atmosphere.
We hope you will enjoy our beautiful collection of living scents as much as we have enjoyed dreaming them up for you.

Burn Baby, Burn… Up to a 45 Hour Burn Time!
Our candles in tins have been thoughtfully designed to not only look fantastic in the space you choose to put them in, but also to have the longest burn time possible, giving you more enjoyment from your candle and value for money.
Our secret? As you would expect from House of Alyssa Smith, we make a conscious effort to create the highest quality products and use the highest quality wax, perfumes, wick and tin for our candles. This gives our home scents a more natural, more consistent ‘throw’ with far superior smell quality, whilst remaining hypoallergenic too. Our candle wax is actually even edible before we add in the perfumes, essential oils and colourings.
Each of our candles comes with a handy ‘burn guide’ to help ensure you get the best from your candle, but if you would rather go ‘paper free’ and don’t require a burn guide, just let us know at the checkout and we won’t pop one in with your order. We have also popped our burn guide below:
A handy little guide to helping you on your way to getting the best from your gorgeous new candle!
The very first time you light your candle, be sure to keep it burning until the pool of melted wax reaches the edge of the container before you extinguish it.
This it to ensure that every time you light your candle after the first time, it will give you the best burn possible and give your candle a longer lifespan too!
When you get to the end of your
candle life, don’t panic if there's a bit of
wax left at the bottom.
This is a deliberate feature and stops
the bottom of the container getting too hot.
We recommend you don't leave your candle lit for more than 3-4 hours a time and ensure the wax has fully cooled and set before lighting it again. This will again help to prolong candle life.
One world, One Chance- Our Sustainability Efforts
Our Values- Cruelty free, Vegan and Ethically Made
Our candles and living scents (just like our jewellery!) are hand made and carefully hand poured (and then decorated!) in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside. We are so proud to be a British company through and through, and pride ourselves on British manufacture in all aspects of our design and processes at House of Alyssa Smith.
To create our incredible and very lingering home fragrances, we are so proud to be working with the world’s most renowned master perfumer, based in France. What a treat!
Only the best ingredients make the cut for our home scents, which is probably why we can offer the cleanest burning, and safest wax available on the market. There is nothing worse than buying a candle which lets off plumes of black smoke into the room, is there? And this is something we worked hard to avoid at all costs!
We are proud to say that the colours used to give our candles their vibrant and incredible coloured are actually all naturally derived. We never use animal products in any part of our candles, and we do not test them or anything that goes into them on animals either.
Being able to offer cruelty free candles was so important to us, and we’re all huge animal lovers here at House of Alyssa. But it wasn’t just creating candles which aren’t tested on animals that was important to us- we also wanted to make sure that no palm oil was used in our candles too. There are many alternatives on the market to palm oil, and we simply believe it is not necessary to even consider using.
Whilst we use as many natural raw ingredients and essential oils as possible for our gorgeous home scent collections, we are also conscious that certain popular ingredients are endangered or protected such as sandalwood. Rather than using this ingredient and contributing to the problem, we have substituted it for other fragrances which blend together to mimic sandalwood.
Why a tin, not a glass jar?
Tins are a fabulous way to display a candle in your special space at home. As well as looking great there are also some secret little advantages to having a candle in a tin (as opposed to in a glass jar!) which include helping to give more heat to the fragrance to give it that lingering effect, and helping to give a good burn too!
Clean, Safe and Natural- from our House to Yours
Clean burning, safe and filled with natural essential oils and ingredients.
As we become more and more conscious about what we put into the atmosphere, it has been a huge ‘need’ that we ensure our candles and home scents are safe, and as natural as possible. We’re not saying our products are perfect, but our aim is to make them as environmentally friendly and sustainable as we possibly can.
Before our candle wax is dyed and perfumed, it is actually very edible! (not very tasty, but still edible!) The wax is fully refined so that there is a lower oil content. This is quite an expensive method to that used of very many other candle manufacturers, but it actually prevents the creation of that black smoke we mentioned – which can actually be carcinogenic! The wax we source is used on allergy testing strips and plasters and is therefore hypoallergenic too.
No bee’s were harmed when we made our candles!
We chose not to use bees wax or ‘organic’ soy wax in any of our candles as these both go through strong chemical processes with nickel catalysts during the candle manufacturing process.
Bees wax was something we were passionate about keeping away from when we formed our gorgeous candles as we would not want to harm their habitats, especially when they are becoming more and more endangered as the years go on.
Soy can also lead to allergic reactions and people should use caution when purchasing soy-based candles.
What makes us a cut above the rest?
We don’t like to blow our own trumpet, but if we must…
