Packing can be stressful, wouldn’t you agree?
Especially when you need to pack lightly and space is precious! If you are about to embark on a well deserved mini break away, don’t let your jewellery packing be an added stress. Read our top tips for packing lightly when it comes to your holiday jewellery essentials and ensure you have the perfect jewel for any outfit – day or night!!
5 perfect pieces to pack for a mini break
Knowing what to pack for a holiday can be super stressful, wouldn’t you agree? Especially if we’re talking ‘staycations’ when any weather goes and we have to pack for that potential of all occasions and seasons in one day! This extra stash of ‘just in case’ items teamed with the issue of ‘space’ in our chosen suitcases and overnight bags doesn’t usually leave much spare room, does it? Therefore it’s no great surprise when we don’t have much room for endless jewellery boxes filled with our favourite sparkles amongst the umbrellas, suncream, wellies, flipflops and the emergency ponchos! And that’s before you add your hairdryer to the equation (You know, for in case the one provided at your destination is either terrible, or non-existent!)
That’s why we’ve put together some top tips to keep you looking tip top on your mini break away, even when you don’t have much room for sparkles! We’re going to help you pack 5 items which will keep you going day or night, and won’t take up much room in your precious luggage space either- in fact, all of our suggestions will fit inside your gorgeous Alyssa Smith jewellery keepsake box and you’ll still have room to pop a mini perfume or lipstick in the box too, for good measure.
So let’s get started! First things first…
1. A decent pair of studs
This is an absolute holiday staple, and in our opinion, the sparklier the better! On holiday and whilst we’re busy having fun, we always find a simple stud is the most versatile piece of jewellery you can possibly adorn yourself with!
Why? Well, it’s simple when you think about it really! We are allll about the hoops and danglers at ASJ, but actually when it comes to holidays we think keeping it simple (especially if you need to pack lightly!) is the best policy. Bigger earrings can sometimes catch in scarfs or get tangled in a bikini top, caught on a slide or tangled in your hair if you are out and about in the windy wilderness. Worse still, a big pair of hoops can get caught when you’re dressing and undressing at the airport, going through the beep beep machines (why do they always make us remove our big hoops!?) and the last thing we want to be doing at the airport is crawling around amongst peoples feet trying to find our earrings backs, wouldn’t you say?
So for absolute faff free fun, we always like to travel in a good pair of studs and keep them in for most, if not all of our short break away! If you opt for something simple and sparkly (stone based, gemstone based or just a plain metal design such as a simple but effective silver star studs) you will often find this single pair of earrings is perfect for everything from lounging around a pool, to dinner in the evening and even if you decide to go on a spontaneous adventure- they are much less likely to get caught and cause stress that none of us need when we are trying to have well deserved fun!

2. A snazzy glasses chain
Yes, you did read this right! Glasses chains are ‘in’ right now, but of course- we were making them way before they officially became cool again! 4. A beaded gemstone bracelet (or three!)

And if you’ve chosen and packed item 1 on our list correctly, any necklace should perfectly compliment your

Alyssa's top tip for packing
“I always say if you can wear it, then do! This goes for anything in relation to packing, especially if you’re travelling by plane.
We always layer up and wear everything we can when we need to travel lightly, I’ve sometimes been known to wear jumper, cardigan and coat so I don’t have to use up space packing them!”
Plus you’ll then have more room for extras in your suitcase and jewellery box.
I love to pop a tiny tester bottle of perfume in my travel jewellery box too, a lip balm stick with sun protection, and my absolute ‘must pack’ item is a jewellery polishing cloth so I can easily wipe off any residue from perfumes or sun cream to stop my jewellery tarnishing and keep it looking shiny and new whilst I’m away!
I never leave home and go on my travels without a Moonstone either- I’m a real believer in the healing properties of gemstones and this gemstone has long been known as the ‘travellers’ stone. It used to be given to sailors when they left on a new voyage by their family members to help bring them home safely and I just love this thought.”.
